Punk started in the 70's as a dissonant, underground rebellion against common current of popular culture music. Bands alike Sex Pistols, Iggy Pop, and Rancid helped bring punk music back in the mid-1990's. This time the blend of fast, simple as soap rock with rhytmic pop melodies stayed on the TV. Today, so-called pop punk is the main element in the world of chart music. These 10 record albums are fine place to start from to learn punk pop.

1. blink-182 - Enema of the State

In blink-182's endless attempt to offend any grown ups in the vicinity, this album featured a person clothed as an enema au pair girl on the cover. The music inside is youthful and catchy including the monumental hit song “Aliens Exist.”

2. The Donnas - Spend the Night

Girls can perform punk, too, and this record album is a profuse evidence of that. The group modeled after the rock band Ramones with each singer taking the name Donna. Misery Business Download to listen to it.

3. Good Charlotte - Young and the Hopeless

Good Charlotte got into the top ten of the popular music album chart with this set. It's filled with tales of college and problem mothers. The smashing hit track is “The Anthem.”

4. Green Day - Jesus of Suburbia

After retreating from their nineties peak of popularity, Green Day faded to the studio to put together punk rock's first rock opera. Though the punk band was nervous about their fan's reaction to Letterbomb, it turned out to be an American punk rock classic topping the album chart and gaining a Grammy award for Best Punk Album of 2004.

5. The Lemonheads - It's a Shame About Ray

The Lemonheads' lead singer Evan Dando is the only punk musician to become a true teen dream-boy. Along the way the band wrote down some breathtaking songs, too, including “The Turnpike Down”, “Download Paramore” and “Mrs. Robinson” on this album.

6. The Offspring - Not the One

The Offspring a highly influential American rock band were one of the original punk renaissance bands from the 90's. Frequently their music bordered on psychedelic rock and metal, but their very best music is pure punk. “Come Out and Play” and “Killboy Powerhead” are far beyond what is customary on this DVD.

7. Rancid - Daly City Train

Rancid a lot like such late seventies classic punk bands as the Clash. They also incorporate the sound of pop punk in much of their albums.

8. Simple Plan - Still Not Getting Any…

This French Canadian group emerged in the public eye in October with their album Perfect. This 2nd album is even better and covers the hit single “My Alien.”

9. Sum 41 - Motivation

The mp3 “Fat Lip” helped catapult this studio album into the pop top 20. Sum 41 implant clever humor into much of their music. Download Paramore to get an impression of what we are talking about.

10. Weezer - Surf Wax America (Blue Album)

Despite the fact that they are esteemed as initiators of the anti-establishment rock music genre, Weezer's music is also true pop punk in style. “My Name Is Jonas” was their first popular song and then a clip putting the band in a TV episode stimulated to make “Buddy Holly” even more popular.
